DOI: 10.17148/IJIREEICE.2018.667
Abstract: The protection of power substations against lightning over voltages is important for the reliable operation of the electrical network, since region surges often are chargeable for serious damages of apparatus, leading to power provide interruptions. Studies on the lightning performance of substations are necessary so as to calculate the expected over voltages and take the suitable measures. To the present direction, during this paper analyses for the lightning overvoltage performance of HV/MV substations are performed, considering varied factors, like the grounding resistance, the installation position of surge arresters and also the length of the underground cables. Main novelty of this work is that the outcomes of the lightning performance study are bestowed on an individual basis for each direct lightning hits and back flashover, whereas the analyses take into consideration not solely the grounding resistance (which is that the common observe in similar studies) however additionally the cable and also the installation position of surge arresters. The obtained results may be helpful for engineers and power utilities for the advance of the lightning performance of already existed substations or for the simpler style of recent ones.

DOI: 10.17148/IJIREEICE.2018.6610
Abstract: In this paper, simulation of single-phase 5-level, 17-level, 37-level and three-phase37-level asymmetric inverters with reduced number of power switches and total harmonic distortion is carried out. The topology of single phase 17-level and single phase 37-level inverters are obtained by cascading connection of basic unit of single phase 5- level inverter topology twice and thrice respectively. Using single phase 37-level asymmetric inverters, threephase 37- level inverter is developed. This is achieved by connecting three single-phase inverter bridges with 120° phase difference between each inverter bridges in cascade. This phase difference is achieved by generating pulses with a delay of 120° with respect to each bridge. Pulse generation technique used is based on, comparison between amplitude of sine wave and range of numbers. Simulation of single-phase 5-level, 17-level, 37-level, and three-phase 37-level inverters is carried out using the above mentioned pulse generation technique. The simulation is carried out by using MATLAB\Simulink R2015a software. Results include output voltage, and current waveforms and THD for single phase 37-level inverter. Also shown phase voltage, line voltage, phase and line current waveforms and THD for three- phase 37-level inverter.
Abstract: Speech is a natural and easiest way of communication. Various researches have been done on voice activity detection and automatic speech recognition system. This paper presents a novel and efficient approach of human voice activity detection in noisy environment. Voice Activity Detection (VAD) is a primary method of speech processing. It refers to a class of methods which detects whether a sound signal contains speech or not i.e. it discriminates human speech signal from other sounds. In real life applications it is not feasible to focus on characteristics of noise due to their random occurrence. Hence to achieve the purpose formants are used as a main features which represents human voice characteristics very effectively. Here clean and noisy speech samples are taken and it is represented that formants of clean speech and noisy speech occurs in same range of frequencies. Thus formants are prominent feature for VAD. To check the robustness of the implemented system clean speech samples are compared with noisy speech samples at various SNR levels.
